Happy to be of service. It continues to amaze me how many managers take a paternalistic, controlling approach to their communications. It really demonstrates a lack of respect for the ability of others to make sound assessments based on open, honest communication. I'm as big a cynic as you're likely to find, but I do harbor the sincere belief that trustworthy communication can help transform dysfunctional organizations.

Thanks for this. I kind of stumbled upon this post first thing this morning, but it could not have been more timely. I'm running up against a lot of cynicism with a colleague in my new job, and this post confirmed for me that I'm on the right track with getting the organization's communications up and running again, and I may share it with him. Also, I've just accepted your request to connect on LinkedIn. I'll bookmark your blog.

Hi Dan,
Liked the post - lots of very good advice here. Trust is a huge issue as you suggest. From a 30,000 view, trust is built through social engagement. Social engagement can come as a result of community or grassroots efforts, WOM, CSR or social media initiatives. Your suggestions give people some guidance on how best to interact and with what tone.
Thanks, Don B @donbart
